Back from vacation. Feeling refreshed, but also dreading the accumulated work? This is how I managed to keep myself out of that state upon my return.

  • I planned ahead. Finished urgent tasks before vacation. Set out-of-office messages and emergency contacts. This way, I avoided email overload when I logged back in.

  • I gave myself some buffer time. Instead of jumping straight into meetings, I set some time aside to catch up on emails, prioritize tasks, and plan my week.

  • I reconnected with my teammates and stakeholders. I shared some vacation highlights, inquired about any time sensitive items, and offered my assistance.

  • I set some realistic goals. I did not try to do everything at once. Instead, I focused on the most important and urgent tasks first and dissected them into manageable steps.
